An Enigma

2016, Recycled Cardboard and Aluminum, 170cm x 180cm

University of Virginia BA Urban & Environmental Planning Class of 2019

My final project for my foundation studio in the Architecture School at The University of Virginia was titled, “The Pod Project.” We were instructed to create, fabricate, and install a living pod using only recyclable materials.

My team was inspired by an existing whale sculpture at one of the main entrances into our school. This was the location where we decided to install our pod. We designed our pod as a parasite to the existing whale structure, mimicking its curvilinear aspects. Using a combination of recycled cardboard and aluminum cans, we developed and constructed a unique interlocking system. We physically constructed the pod together, but had individual tasks as well. I was responsible for hand drawing the section and plan, as well as creating the virtual model of our pod in Rhinoceros 3D.
